day one - Rome
This
is my place and I'll be giving you the best tours here! If you
fly in early in the morning, your hotel rooms may not be ready until
2:00 pm and therefore it might be wise to start touring Rome right
away.
You'll
be taken to the hotel to drop off your luggage and freshen up and
then we'll go on a light, introductory 4-hour tour of the city. This
tour will take you to the Spanish Steps Villa Borghese Park and
Pincio Terrace, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Colosseum, Circus Maximus,
Aventine Hill, Baths of CaracallaTrevi Fountain, Piazza Venezia,
Roman Walls.

day two - Rome
We will continue to explore Rome and visit the places
we left out the first day: the Capitol Hill with the view of the
Roman Forum, the Colosseum, Michelangelo's Moses, The Old Appian
Way, and the Catacombs in the morning and, after a nice lunch in a
typical Roman "trattoria" we'll tour the Vatican in the afternoon.
Once inside the Vatican Museums, you'll take the shortest route
possible to the Sistine Chapel. Being the Vatican Museums the third
largest of the art collections in the world, consisting in 1500
rooms literally packed with statues, paintings tapestries, frescoes
and more, it would take years to see everything, so you'll walk
through the Gallery of Statues, Gallery of Tapestries and that
Gallery of Geographic Maps and finally you'll reach the Sistine
Chapel. After having enjoyed the Sistine, you will continue to St.
Peter's. We find it much better to visit the Vatican in the
afternoon. After most of the big crowds of tour groups leave, you
can enjoy the Vatican more leisurely, but if you prefer to start
your touring day with the Vatican, we'll be happy to accommodate
you. The Sistine Chapel cannot be visited separately from the
Vatican Museums.
At the Vatican they are very strict about their dress code: ladies'
shoulders need to be covered so pants or skirts have to cover the
knee. Gentlemen have to cover their shoulders too and also their
pants have to cover the knee, plus they must also remember to take
off their hat of when entering churches and let's not forget that
the Sistine Chapel is church! It doesn't matter how fancy you look,
it matters that you're covered up, so jeans are ok.
We will return to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Castles.
A full-day of excursion to the countryside near Rome.
You'll be visiting Villa D'Este in Tivoli in the morning and, after
a stop for lunch in a nice country restaurant where you'll also
taste some local good wine we will tour the Roman Castles in the
afternoon. We will be driving through olive groves and vineyards to
finally reach Castelgandolfo (the Pope's Summer Residence).
Castelgandolfo is a very nice little town overlooking a volcanic
lake that we are sure will fascinate you.
We will return to your hotel in the late afternoon.
