Some people book us way before time and ask for suggestions about where to stay. others end up staying in hotels they're not particularly pleased with and ask us where we would stay if we were tourists in Rome.

All of those who tour with us seem to be very happy with the restaurants we take to for our lunch during the tour and inevitably ask us to suggest them a restaurant for dinner.

Cruisers ask us to if we know of anyone who gives tours out of other Mediterranean ports of call and though for what concerns the ports of Civitavecchia, Livorno or La Spezia and Naples we can accommodate them ourselves we don't have any direct partnership outside of Italy. However we know of people who do a good job at what they do and we list them here on this page.

We list on this page our favored hotels and restaurants in Italy and the contact info for guides, driving guides and drivers who operate outside of Italy. We'll also be adding any other information we might think would be useful for people visiting Italy and Europe.

We're not charging anybody any commission!

Restaurants in Rome

Sora Rosa - Villa Tor Carbone

Via di Villa Tor Carbone, 74, Roma

00178 Roma - Tel. 06.7188453

Lovely restaurant by the Old Appian Way serving exquisite, traditional Roman specialties like Carbonara,  Matriciana and the world famous Devil Style Chicken since it opened in the year 1900.

Laura and Marco are waiting to welcome you and let you sample their renowned dishes and their charm !

Ristorante "Palazzaccio"

V. E.Q. Visconti, 66 - Roma
Tel. 06 3219238 - Cell 338.3994481

Typical old fashioned Roman neighborhood restaurant located between the new and the old court houses of Rome, and consequently frequented mostly by lawyers and judges, it's also a good stop for tourists on their way to or from the Vatican. The owner speaks impeccable English and serves impeccable Roman specialties!

Sor'Eva - Piazza della Rovere 108, Roma
Tel. 06.6875797

Sor'Eva is the typical Roman "Trattoria", loud, chaotic and intricate, but fun and run by charming people who yell their orders to the chefs in the kitchen like it's always been customary to do in such places.

Frequented mainly by locals, a lot lot of whom eat there everyday, and priests from the nearby North American College. Tourists are almost a rarity here.

Cafeteria "Circo Massimo"

Viale Aventino, 14, Roma
Tel. 0657305412

A nice sidewalk cafeteria not far from the Colosseum with good food at a reasonable price. Ideal for a lunch break before or after visiting the ruins and continuing to sightsee around Rome.

Frequented mainly by locals, F.A.O. employees and tourists. Good salads.

Trattoria "der Pallaro"

Largo der Pallaro 13, Roma
Tel. 06 68801488

Still working the old fashioned way: you sit down and they serve you what they have prepared for the day, which usually is a lot more food than a human can eat! They bring you your wine, water or sodas and the bill is fixed: 25.00 Euros per person!

Paola, cook and owner, loves Americans and treats them with special care.

Osteria "da Franca"

Via Appia Antica 28, Roma
Tel. 06 5136792

Very simple and old fashioned. Franca is not really young anymore and she still cooks like she's everyone's mom sticking to the tradition: gnocchi on Thursdays, baccalà on Fridays and son on.

No sign outside, only an old wine barrel hanging outside above of the door. Only open for lunch Monday through Friday. No credit cards!
